Mexican Coffee Origin and Details
The Mexico NKG Bloom Los Altos coffee is a unique collaboration among 102 indigenous women from five municipalities in the Los Altos de Chiapas region of Mexico. These women, who represent both the present and future of coffee in their community, have been preserving coffee production through traditional knowledge passed down for generations. Each farmer cultivates an average of 1.2 hectares and carefully hand-pulps their cherries, followed by fermentation in small tanks before washing and sun-drying.
Despite challenges like the 2014 rust pandemic and the effects of ageing plantations, these women have continued to produce high-quality coffee while breaking gender barriers and driving economic growth in their region. This coffee is grown at altitudes between 1,110 and 1,500 metres above sea level, where the cool mountain climate and fertile soils of Chiapas create ideal conditions for producing exceptional Arabica varieties like Sarchimor and Caturra.
